The Tria laser hair removal system was the first FDA-cleared home laser hair remover made available in the United States. Since its release a couple of years ago, it has generated all kinds of buzz, including profiles in Elle, People, Good Housekeeping, and even the Wall Street Journal.
The trick with the Tria is that it uses a sophisticated diode laser that targets the pigment in darker hairs, then removes them with heat transference. This pigmentation targeting means that your skin is safe, but also means that the Tria is not recommended for those with light (ie, blond, red, or grey) hair, nor for those with dark skin. The sophisticated laser technology does mean extra-strong results against dark hairs on light skin, however.
How well does it work? One published study showed that after a mere 3 sessions (about 8 – 10 sessions are usually needed), overall body hair was reduced by 41%, with leg hair reduced by a whopping 61%. And, of course, all 10 or so sessions can be done while comfortably watching TV.
The cost of the Tria was initially $995, but has come down to about half of that at $595, or about ¼ of the price of professional treatment. And, if you’re not happy with the results after the first 30 days, you can return the Tria for your money back (on top of a 1-year warranty for product defects).
